A Responsible Breeder

When purchasing a dog there is a lot to consider. You are committing the next 10 to 12 years of your life to care for a creature that is totally dependent upon you, your spouse, partner and your children. No one person gets the job, it is a cooperative effort. 

Owning a Golden Retriever is a 24/7 effort by every member of your family!

There are many breeders. Here is some information we consider important when looking for a Golden. 

  • Do your homework! Don't rush out!  Read about the care, feeding, grooming and health concerns of a golden. 

  • You want a breeder who is responsible and don't forget the breeder is also looking for a responsible owner. 

  • A responsible breeder will have the dam of the puppies on the premises.

  • A picture of the sire will be available.

  • Appropriate clearance papers will be provided- OFA (minimum age 2 years) , CERF ( within the past year)  and SAS (minimum age 1 year)  on BOTH sire and dam of the litter. 

  • Puppies will have seen a veterinarian prior to their going to their new homes.

  • Puppies will have had their first vaccination.

  • A packet will be provided with at least a 4 generation pedigree, medical information, care and feeding information, contract to sign.

  • A responsible breeder will sell their puppies on AKC Limited Registration.
